What better way to end the week than with a brand new jam from UK’s finest Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs?

fashion video | free people + freja beja

Behold Free People’s brand new Feburary video catalog featuring none other than 2kewl4skewl danish model (and my number one girl crush) Freja Beha. Apart from Freja’s incredible badassness and perfectly imperfect hair, the thing I like the most about this video is the song by Mal Blum. You can definitely hear Kimya Dawson influences in there. Lovely!

back to blogging | groovy disco

Hello there! It’s been a while since I last posted on here, but you can rest assured, cyber friends, that the knot is still very much on top.

“What’s bringing you back to the interwebs?” you might ask (or not). Well, short story short, I just came up with a playlist of groovy “nu disco” beats that I cleverly named “shiny dance shoes” (’cause I’m like super original and conceptual and creative and stuff), and I wanted to share it with you guyz. Don’t be scared if your body bursts into uncontrollable rhythmic spasms – there’s no shame in having a solo dance party. So turn up the volume, and shake that bum bum like nobody’s watching! (But I’ll be watching*)

HOPE YA DIG IT.

*and judging.

Spice Up Your Life : The Ultimate Shoe Off

Having already discussed shoulder parties (neon satchel, anyone?), and with summer just around the corner of “I Need a Tan” and “Margarita St.”, it is time to address another important, nay, critical subject matter: footwear.

Disclamer: Depending on when your mother popped you out of her lady bits you were born, we may or may not have the same cultural references.

Case in point: the Spice Girls.

Let’s take a trip back to the oh so glorious 90′s. Some call these platforms, others “wedges”, and even “platform wedges”, but super kewl fashion bloggers say “flatforms”. I like to roll with super kewl fashion bloggers, so flatforms it is!

I used to be obsessed with the Spice G’s and their ever so chic attire.  I guess 10-year-old me had a profound desire to look like a cheap hooker a British pop star. Needless to say, my parents never caved in to my ridiculous sartorial demands. In hindsight, it wasn’t a bad parenting decision, but we’re not here to discuss how to raise your annoying child, but rather to celebrate the circle of life. Yes, LIFE. What goes around comes around.

THE FLATFORM IS BACK, PEOPLE, AND IT’S HARDER, BETTER, FASTER, STONGER THAN EVER. I CAN HARDLY CONTAIN MY EXCITEMENT. This summer, we’ll all (I will) finally get to live our (my) childhood dream (and by that I mean wear hazardous shoes). Who’s with me? Ankle sprain coming right up!

By the way, I am well aware of the fact that every single fashion blog has already covered this trend, but I like to get my inspiration elsewhere (see TLC’s programming) and so I give you: The Ultimate Shoe Off.

Dramatic, right? If I had to pick, I’d go with Jeffrey Campbell’s Sue Bees, and rock ‘em with socks. I’m crazy like that.

Which pair would YOU choose?

So many options, so little time (and money).

Neon Satchel : The Indiana Jones Dilemma

A couple of months ago, I let the Indiana Jones in me take control of my brain, and purchased this black velvet satchel from Zara.

Zara, 65$

Ever since, my love for nerdy schoolboy attire has turned into an obsession. I want more, and this isn’t helping:

Holy moly! Let me get my sunglasses before I go permanently blind. It’s a fluorescent satchel, you guys! Party on your shoulder, or what? This neon number combines my love for satchels with infinite color blocking possibilities. Plus, bright bags are like - everything this season, and as per usual, I’ll let an amazing computer generated collage prove it to you:

Aren’t these grand? If money grew on trees, I’d grow a forest and get them all. Anyway, back to my fluorescent love.

Cambridge Satchel, 13″ Fluorescent Yellow

What should I do?  Is it worth 185$? Should I get it? CRISIS!

As you can see, my life is filled with life or death dilemmas.

body language | you can (video + remix)

Before we start, I must apologize for this unannounced two-week hiatus, and shamelessly blame everything – and by everything I mean my laziness – on winter, and snow.

The first song I posted on this blog was by Body Language, so I find it fitting to end the longest period of nothingness on le topknot with, once again, a post dedicated to the Brooklyn quartet.

Last time, they had just released a 3 song EP, Social Studies. Today (and I use this term loosely seeing that it came out over a week ago), they bring us the first video of a three part series of live performance, and a remix by dream pop duo Keep Shelly in Athens of their song “You Can”.

The first video is a magical and shadowy reinvention of our single from the Social Studies EP, You can.

And here’s the  remix. The Grecian duo created something completely new and different; a bit trippy, yet soothing. Enjoy.

saint motel | puzzle pieces

LA’s indie power-pop quartet Saint Motel is back with a new track, ‘Puzzle Pieces’; the first release since their stellar debut EP ForPlay in 2009. The song is an upbeat pop romp based on a vibrant, and incredibly catchy piano line (the kind Apple uses to sell iPads). If Matt & Kim had a baby with Vampire Weekend, this is what it would sound like.

Kind of.

(Not really)

conner youngblood | a summer song

I once described Conner Youngblood’s music as “holistic”. Who doesn’t love a subtle reference to Aristotle? Anyone? ANYONE? Come on! Ok, fine. My point was, and still is, that his music is an incredible blend of different sounds and genres – if you’ve heard ‘Monsters‘, you probably know what I mean. Banjo and dubstep? Genius. The world needs more banjo.

This time, the up-and-coming artist brings us ‘A Summer Song’, a more upbeat and “happy” track. Youngblood says:

This is definitely my official attempt at making a happy song. Its still got some bass and banjo aka the shit that people want to hear these days, but I also hit up some piano, guitars, and glitched it up a bit. Just trying to keep things fresh.

robin pecknold | i’m losing myself (ft. ed droste)

What a great way to start off the week! This almost made me forget about the fact that today’s March 7th, and that I’m still buried in snow – by the way, thanks Mother Nature. Anyway. Fleet Foxes‘s frontman, Robin Pecknold, released a three song EP cleverly entitled Three Songs on the interwebs earlier today, and spread the news via twitter (@FleetFoxes). All thee tracks are super mellow – definitively not Fleet Foxes songs. Oh, and guess what? You can download the entire EP for free here. And that’s not all! “I’m Losing Myself”, the first track off Three Songs, features Grizzly Bear‘s Ed Droste. Insane.
