le knot remains on top (part II)

Why, hello there! I haven’t been updating this old thang as much as I should lately, but what better way to dive back into the blogosphere than with a dancing  feline and copious amounts of music?

Here are a couple of songs I haven’t blogged about, but that are still worth a listen. So listen to them. Or don’t. I can’t tell you what to do with your life.

Oh Land – White Nights (Twin Shadow remix) Panda Bear – Last Night at the JettyBoy & Bear – Blood to GoldOf Monsters and Men – Little Talk Alexander – Million Years

Menswear Is The New Black

Our latest fashion installment paid tribute to the always klassy with a K Nicole Polizzi. We discussed poof-sleeve sweaters, Mystic Tan pants, and beer-goggles-sunglasses. The whole point of the exercise was to channel our beloved pickle-eating guidette in a fashionable way. Impossible? Think again.

Sadly, we now fist pump wave Snooki goodbye and say hello to our new inspiration… [anticlimactic drum roll]… Charlie Chaplin! I know, I KNOW, he ain’t no Shore guido, nor has he ever been the star of a hit reality show on MTV. Why even bother, right? Right? Wrong. 30’s menswear is the new black.

Menswear has been around for a while now, but it’s here to stay. Not convinced? Just take a look at these:

Yigal Azrouël Fall 2011 ready-t0-wear

Jason Wu – Fall 2011 ready-to-wear

Ralph Lauren – Fall 2011 ready-to-wear

The Row, Michael Kors, Rachel Roy Fall 2011 ready-to-wear

Thanks, NYFW. Now that I have proven my point, we can start our five step transformation.

Step 1: Suit up!

Stella McCartney Ivory Wool Tailored Orchid Jacket, 1 895,00$

Rag & Bone Lace-up jersey skinny pants, 495$

A wise man once said “To score a ten would be just fine, but I’d rather be dressed to the nines. It’s a truth you can’t refute, nothing suits me like a suit and this also applies to you, sista. Take good note!

Speaking of irrefutable truths, nobody does men’s clothes for women like Alexander Wang. Case in point:

Alexander Wang Pre-Fall 2011 Image via Style.com

Straight from Charlie’s black and white closet! AW sure knows how to dress ’em ladies. Over-sized boyfriend blazer? Check. Drop-crotch pants? Check. White turtle neck sweater? Un-necessary, but check. This leads us to step numero dos : Oxford shoes.

Alexander Wang Ines Oxford – 425$ – Barneys.com

Oxfords will wake the man lying dormant within you. (And yes, these shoes were designed for woman – notice the heel).

Step 3 : The cane

Alexander McQueen
Alexander McQueen ring, 345$        Dominic Jones ring, 790$ 276,50$

Dannijo DANNIJO Tova necklace, 345$

Unless you’re planning a hiking trip to Vermont, you shouldn’t be rocking the bamboo cane. You should, however, substitute said cane with accessories that provide equal protection such as jewelry that resemble violent weapons (think self-defense).

Step 3: T-shirt tiiiiime (I can’t help it)

Capture d’écran 2013-06-12 à 03.18.01

The Reformation Patti Top

Behold the Pryus of button-up shirts: the Patti Top. Half cropped, half not. This shirt doesn’t particularly scream Charlie Chaplin, but then again, it doesn’t have to, and here’s why – Silent. Film.

Step 4: Proenza Schouler

Proenza Schouler PS1 Large Leather, 1995$

Proenza Schouler doesn’t need an introduction, but my birthday is coming up. Just sayin’.

Step 5: The derby hat

Madrid Wool Hat, 38$, shopnastygal.com

Finish off the look with a fedora, the modern day version of Chap’s famous derby hat. Avoid all eye contact with the camera for a dramatic effect, and some well-deserved hipster points. Just kidding. We’re not gonna go there.

Who would have known that coming up with a look inspired by a men from the 30’s would be easier than emulating a 21st century reality star?

Toodles!

noah and the whale | l.i.f.e.g.o.e.s.o.n. (fake blood remix)

On the transfusion chair today: English indie folk band Noah and the Whale’s L.I.F.E.G.O.E.S.O.N remixed by fellow brit Fake Blood. The track may not be as brain damaging as some of FB’s other work (i.e. “Mars”), but it’s still pretty explosive. All in all, great build up (as always), unstoppable bass kick, and sick sting intro.

Snooki + Fashion: How To Solve The Equation

When I first started this blog, I didn’t know which direction it would take. Fashion or music? As it turns out, I’ve been progressively leaning towards the world of synths and keyboards (shame on me!), but I haven’t forgotten about my love for frocks and platforms. No. In fact, I’ve decided to pull a JT and bring sexy back (and by sexy I mean fashion, duh!)

What better way to dive back into the sartorial ocean than by paying homage to someone whose style is a constant source of inspiration? You’ve guessed it, I’m talking about the oh so classy Nicole Polizzi.

You’re probably looking at the collage above wondering where the bedazzled sunglasses, and Ed Hardy masterpieces went. Let me explain. You don’t have to look like Snooki  (thank God) to pay tribute to her fancy self.

Here are some key elements that must be taken into consideration when emulating the pint-sized guidette.

Let’s start off with a black Miu Miu puff-sleeve sweater, or should I say poof-sleeve sweater? See what I did there? 595$ of pure guidette-inspired goodness. The resemblance is uncanny. Wait ’til you see the pants.

What color would you say these are? If you answered the color of Snooki’s skin, then bravo!  You’re one step closer to becoming a living, breathing high-fashion version of Jersey Shore’s finest. If these Vanessa Bruno Tapered crepe pants don’t scream Mystic Tan, then I don’t know what does.

Some may say the pant/sweater combination is somewhat reminiscent of a certain October holiday. I say switch the channel to MTV, and watch Jersey Shore.

Behold – Chloe Sevigny for Opening Ceremony mary-janes a.k.a. the deluxe version of the hooker heel. Due to Snooki’s height, heels are a must. However, you don’t have to pay 400$ to look like a lady of the night, 139$ will suffice.

Capture d’écran 2013-06-12 à 03.32.02

Thank you, Jeffrey Campbell!
Moving on…

I think it’s safe to say that our favorite guidette will never love someone like she loves her white wine, which is why need a giant tote bag. Huh? Why YES, you need space to carry your booze around! Plus, this YSL bag is called the Lucy Chyc tote bag. Chic with a Y… Need I say more?

It wouldn’t be a “Snooki outfit” without a subtle reference to pickles, so BAM! a Jane Taylor Tanzanian green opal ring. Because nothing says ‘pickle’ like gold jewelry and semi-precious stones. And it’s on sale!!! 45% off! $1,292.50 instead of $2,350.00. What a steal!

Finish off the look with a pair of beer goggles Karen Walker sunglasses, perfect to hide last night’s smeared eyeliner!

There you have it: the most ironically minimalist outfit you’ll ever see.

I think I deserve a fist pump.

STRFKR | reptilians

Starfucker/STRFKR, the electro-pop band hailing from Portland, OR released two tracks from their second full-length LP, Reptilians, set to be released on March 8th 2011. Even though these songs primarily focus on the general concept of death, more specifically getting buried alive and the end of the world – yikes – they both are upbeat, and catchy dance tracks. And they’re free. YES!

You can pre-order Reptilians on iTunes.
